File under “things that are just WRONG”
Sorting through mom’s old recipes that I filed in with mine, I found this:
Hot apple pie
1 ½ tsp raisins
¼ C + 2 T applesauce
1 pk artificial sweetener
2 tsp reduced calorie margarine
Apple pie spice to taste
Mix well.
Stuff into pocket of a mini pita. Wrap in foil. Bake until heated. Serve 1.
1 fruit, 1 fat, 1 bread
Ok, so we have a 1) imitation of a fast food “hot apple pie,” which pretty uniformly suck to start with, and 2) Two of the 6 ingredients start with the word “artificial” and 3) this has really got to suck and 4) look at the exchanges you blow on this anyway! (If you do that sort of thing. Which I don’t.)
So very wrong, on so many counts. Had to share before I threw it away.

Wow. That sounds really dreadful. It is the pita that kind of freaks me out. That is pretty far from a pie crust (which is what makes a pie a pie after all).
I was recently in Maine near where you, Vance and I went some time ago. We should go back some time.
Jesse
We skipped the usual July Maine trip. Maybe we'll try in the fall. Sometimes we reminisce about the good old days when we used to invite people to Maine all the time and no one ever took us up on it. "Except Jesse" we say, and we feel all warm and fuzzy toward you. We will have to call and hear about your trip this time.
I will have to follow this post with another one about the fabulous recipes we are actually cooking. Vance just worked his way through a Greek cookbook in 2 months, yum.
That was a whole era of bad "dietetic" food, wasn't it? Remember seeing recipes like that in magazines as a kid. "So slimming! So simple!"
But here's the muthalode:
