2nd annual roommate reunion
I will have to write this up then go back and load pics. Bear with me and my dial-up.
We went to Waynesboro for our second annual roommate reunion (UVA, classes of 88-89).
Present:
Dave
Gil
Jenny
Caroline
me
Leslie, briefly
Vance
Betsy
Bonnie Sue
Hampton
These are at Dave's house.
Friday we got there (except Jenny, who arrived Sat morning) and we ate and drank and ate and drank and caught up. Vance and I and Betsy stayed with Dave; Caroline stayed over at Gil's.
Saturday Leslie blew us off. We waited for Jenny and had a great brunch (quiche and cookies and cherries and peaches and biscuits and banana bread and croissants and champagne, champagne, champagne, and champagne with peaches in it and wine with peaches in it, and we planned our day. In the running for activities: the county fair, wineries, or swimming pools. Wineries won. Jenny got there and had champagne and then came the problem: we wanted to go to wineries but no one wanted to drive. Gil said he would take care of it and after a short walk and a few phone calls he came back with his solution.......
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh
No
he
didn't!
Oh yes he did.
So we loaded up the cooler
and off we went,
with one longish
stop on the way,
having run out of champagne.
It's a shame that everyone that reads this wasn't along with us. You all would have fit, and then some.
(On the way there and the way back, I took many many pictures of the cars passing us, trying to capture the expressions of disbelief on people's faces. Never got a really really great shot though.)
We went to Rockbridge winery and tasted their prize-winning wines and bought a lot, and then had a picnic there.
That sandwich is about to turn on Dave.
Open the wine already.
Dave's famous watermelon salad.
My favorite picture ever of Gil.
And home again.
Somewhere in here my camera lens got cracked, hence the thing that looks like lens fare on some of these shots.
Then we went back, and soaked in Gil's fabulous above-ground pool (and must have looked like we were having fun, because this morning his neighbor had bought one just like it.)
And we went and ate at Scotto's (Italian food).
and went back to Dave's for more of the same. 80's music and conversation.
Oh why oh why aren't we all still living in the same town.
